A changing world requires a new style of education

If your community is affected by a growing number of young people falling into drugs, violence and truancy or simply the loss of the sense of the American Dream in its aspects of good citizenship, patriotism, honesty, do-it-yourself vigor, swelling the ranks of those dependent on the government, we have a message for you: Our message is one of well-grounded hope and optimism.

Since 1985 the Latin American Alliance for the Family, ALAFA, has researched and developed a complete curriculum for Elementary, Middle and High School to lead children and adolescents to discover for themselves the way to success, happiness and stable family life. Through what has come to be called the Pedagogy of the Integration of the Person, this unique K-12 curriculum forms the logic of virtue by way of understanding, accepting and doing what corresponds in fact to the universal values. The vehicle used is an exciting and interesting story of a boy and his cousin Alice and their large and varied group of friends. The story unfolds in the context of school, sports, home and the community and the characters grow and develop in parallel with the reader, so it is always applicable. The curriculum requires only one lesson per week, and it is effective because it is continuous.

Based on sound psychology and new knowledge about brain development in childhood and adolescence, each chapter of each book targets the 3 levels of the person: the spiritual (the intelligence and the will), the emotional and the corporal, what Thomas Likona has called “the Head, Heart and Hand”. In this way the students gain knowledge, motivation and skills. The emphasis is on rational thinking and understanding the laws of cause and effect. The ‘Golden Rule’ is an underlying constant: Do unto others as you would have them do to you”.

If you feel your community could benefit by teaching values to children and youth in a constructive and structured way, please contact us. We look forward to working together.
